Waste

Aix-Marseille University's WASTE strategy is based on the "3Rs" paradigm:

Reduce – Reuse – Recycle.

Coming soon...

A supervised waste disposal facility will soon be available on the existing platform during specific time slots.

Selective sorting stations in each department will replace individual office bins by the end of 2025.

Where to recycle my paper?

You can recycle paper in the cardboard boxes provided in iSm2 departments (BIO OCEAN contract). Make sure paper is not contaminated with food or other non-recyclable substances.

Where to recycle my cardboard?

Cardboard must be placed in the designated container at the recycling platform, located in the boiler room parking lot opposite Wing 3 (PAPREC contract). Ensure the cardboard is clean and flat. Excluded: soiled cardboard, food packaging, plastic film, polystyrene, strapping tape, etc.

Where to recycle my printer cartridges?

  • For Ricoh printers: services 332 and 341 (Biosciences team), collection by Ricoh.

  • For other printers: Contact the admin office to drop them in a Conibi box. Office supply stores may also offer collection points.

TONERS-CARTOUCHES

Where to recycle my batteries?

The logistics service (Mr. Rederon) handles collection under the Corepile contract. Used batteries can also be dropped in collection bins at supermarkets, hardware stores, or community recycling centers. Use specific bins to prevent environmental contamination.

Where to recycle my WEEE?

Small electrical and electronic devices (monitors, phones, computers, scientific equipment, etc.) can be dropped in the metal crates available at the campus waste disposal area.

For large scientific equipment or bulky removals, submit a customized support request on the ENT under SCIENCES > Logistics and Technical Services (Saint-Jérôme Faculty – Moving/Removal).

Large equipment must be palletized and wrapped. Submit a ticket to logistics to arrange pick-up.

For equipment exposed to chemicals or biological agents (fridge, freezer, incubator…), a decontamination certificate must be provided (self-certified by the lab, in coordination with DHSE).

Where to recycle archives and books?

Before a move, contact AMU’s archivist (Barbara Sanchez-Gomez) via a DAJI ticket. For books to discard, contact Renaud Bernardin to be put in touch with the contractor. Fees may apply to the lab.

Where to recycle domestic sorting waste?

While awaiting the installation of selective sorting bins (for food packaging, cans, plastics), use the public containers near the vehicle entrance to the campus for glass and packaging.

Where to recycle cigarette butts?

AMU uses a UGAP contract with KEENAT to collect cigarette butts (Ecomegot solution).

Team initiatives

  • Recycling pipette tip racks with Dutscher (Biosciences – service 341, room 184)
  • Coffee capsule collection with Nespresso (Stéréo team)
  • Donation of clothing, tableware, and cosmetics for institute members in need (Solidarity Room, Biosciences – service 312)

Where to donate/sell furniture or equipment?

To manage the reuse and recycling of used professional furniture, AMU has signed a contract with VALDELIA. No permanent bin is available on site, but you can request a container via the logistics ticket system for special needs such as moves.

AMU is developing an online donation platform for lab furniture, to launch soon.
