Welcome to the iSm2 website

Foreword

The Institute of Molecular Sciences of Marseille (iSm2) forms a multidisciplinary research center at the heart of molecular chemistry, primarily acting at the interface with biology and showing the intention to direct part of its research at the interface with Physics.

This structure, built around three supervisory bodies, Aix-Marseille University (AMU), the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), and the Ecole Centrale de Marseille (ECM), presents an architecture based on centers of expertise supported by four research teams operating according to three axes that cover synthetic chemistry, life chemistry, and quantum chemistry.

Missions

The specificities and scientific objectives of the Institute are expressed at both fundamental and applied levels to address major scientific problems in the fields of chirality, catalysis, chemical models and mechanisms, natural products, supramolecular assemblies, life chemistry, and metabolomics.

Faced with the enormous societal challenges of the 21st century in economic and ecological matters, molecular sciences must play a crucial role in maintaining a strong and safe industry. For this, it is essential to ensure innovative fundamental research upstream that can meet the requirements of sustainable development. In this perspective, iSm2 will strive to develop cross-disciplinary approaches within the framework of sustainable development (Green Chemistry) through its analytical, synthetic, and theoretical aspects as well as in the field of life sciences.

iSm2 makes a significant contribution to high-level research training to prepare and support our students towards the industrial and academic professional world. Moreover, in a modern context and with suitable infrastructure, this new structure offers our young and talented colleagues the opportunity to achieve their scientific objectives in very good conditions while building interesting prospects for the development of their careers.

Finally, I invite you to browse our website to discover the details of both fundamental and directed research approaches implemented within iSm2.
