A nice collaborative work between iSm2 - institut des Sciences Moléculaires de Marseille, CRPP Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal, the Fédération des Sciences Chimiques de Marseille and CNRS was recently published.
In this work, the electronic properties of two diastereomeric Möbius-shaped macrocycles — the cyclotris[5]helicenes — were explored. These fascinating molecules consist of three [5]helicene fragments connected to form singly and triply twisted ring systems inspired by the iconic Möbius strip.
This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how topology and chirality shape the optical and electronic behavior of curved π-systems — with potential implications for the design of next-generation chiral organic materials.
